Nabeehah Asil Arabian horses
Background
The Arabian horse is a product of Arab culture, the result of fanatical
pure breeding by the Bedouin in the harsh climate of the Arabian desert.
It is estimated that; worldwide; only a small fraction of the Arabian
horses is pure and can trace their bloodlines back to these forebears
born in the desert. This select few is named asil, the Arabian
word for "purebred".
Nabeehah Asil Arab Stud, South Africa, is part of this
international effort to preserve the true identity of the breed. The object
of breeding the Asil Arabian is not to improve the breed but rather to
preserve its perfection.
Breeding Programme
One of the gravest dangers to the future of the Asil Arabian is the tendency
of equestrian enthusiasts to place a great deal of emphasis on beauty.
This leads to a neglect of performance and temperament; the most important
characteristics of the Asil Arabian. Nabeehah is fortunate in that our
young stock can grow up and mature in the semi-desert Karoo region of
South Africa. Here, under natural, desert-like conditions the horses are
shaped by nature and their environment to conform to the norms of their
forebears. Once old enough, they are brought to Pretoria and put in training
for endurance riding. Short of going back to the Arabian Desert, this
is probably as close to an ideal situation as one can find.
Selection Criteria
Our brood stock have all been hand-picked with much blood, sweat and tears
over a period of six years.
Our selection criteria are the following:
- Asil horses with all blood lines originating
to El Zahraa or EAO within five generations;
- Nazeer blood percentage less than 15%;
- Tuhotmos blood percentage more than 12%;
- Perfect conformation; and
- Endurance capabilities
Vision
Although we accept that for over two thousand years
the Bedouins have done all the selection under the harsh conditions of
the Arabian desert , we combine ancient genes with arid Karoo conditions
to shape and refine our foals before they are exposed to endurance conditions.
We will be the prime source of exceptional endurance horses in Africa.
Our horses must not only be the best as far as athletic capabilities are
concerned but will be famous for their temperament and companionship.
